Stars Are Blinds is a show where artist Mikael Brkic revisits a few of his past artistic strategies with a new twist. Emblematic of Brkic’s typically wry style of appropriation, the title is nearly identical to Paris Hilton’s debut single “Stars Are Blind” from 2006, while also marking the debut of Brkic in Berlin, as this is his first gallery solo show in Berlin.
While Hilton was criticized and attacked for lacking originality and sincerity in her eponymous album in 2006, might we expect something similar from Brkic? Working with a curtain fabric evocative of Daniel Buren, blinds, beach life or what have you, Brkic is no stranger to dilettantism.
Mikael Brkic was born in 1987 in Oslo. He lives in Berlin and works in various media including painting, installation and performance. His art is often characterized by improvisation and spontaneity. He obtained his BA from the National Academy of the Arts Oslo in 2009. He also studied at Städelschule in Frankfurt and the Mountain School of Art in Los Angeles.
