In 1956 Bruno was released into society as cured. He fled from the GDR to West Berlin, was flown to southern Germany, worked for a farmer, went to work and ended up back in West Berlin, where he got a job. Most of the time he drove the forklift at Borsig. Along with singing melancholy songs at the end of the shift came writing and later painting, all self-taught.
