For this year's Gallery Weekend Berlin, EBENSPERGER is showing four solo exhibitions at two different locations - in the Kreuzberg gallery space in the Fichtebunker and the EBENSPERGER Chapel in Moabit.
Heiner Franzen has been collecting non-verbal video material from ANCHORS, presenters of international news programmes, for over ten years. In these video loops, Franzen focuses on the moment when someone is silent in the broadcast - be it because of a malfunction or because he or she is allowing guests to discuss. He further developed the extensive source material into video loops and re-enacted some of them with presenters. Franzen is interested in what happens to the presence in an electronic medium. EBENSPERGER is showing the most comprehensive presentation of ANCHORS to date at the Gallery Weekend.
In his expansive installations, Harry Hachmeister often creates spaces such as building sites or fitness studios and uses ceramics, painting, drawing and photography as his primary medium. For his first solo exhibition with EBENSPERGER Berlin – Hachmeister takes up the fragile physicality of being human, which is expressed in a strange domesticity full of subtle humour and sensuality, thus creating a counterpoint to the raw architecture of the Fichtebunker.
When Gundula Schulze Eldowy exhibited her AKTPORTRÄTS (nude portraits) for the first time almost 35 years ago it was a scandal. Her photographs which mainly showed elderly and socially marginalized people, did not paint an idealized picture of the socialist society. The Images, taken in private settings, look deep into the souls of the people portrayed with sensitivity and dignity.Parallel to Schulze Eldowy's stunning exhibitions at the Bröhan Musem and the Akademie der Künste, EBENSPERGER is showing the complete series of nude portraits in a former chapel in Moabit. The Series have been complemented by motifs that have never been shown before and thus allow a comprehensive look at this early phase of the artist's work.
Franz West's Passstücke are sculptures that are also body prostheses. Materialized body neuroses that are functional objects and autonomous sculptures at the same time. They combine West's interest in everyday objects with his characteristic formal language and subtle humour. EBENSPERGER is pleased to present a selection of works from the Diethardt Collection Graz.
