Mark van Yetter (born 1978 in Pennsylvania) is an American painter living in Berlin and New York whose work has been presented internationally in the past two decades, in galleries as well as institutions. In 2009 he co-founded the independent exhibition space Marquise Dance Hall in Istanbul, which he ran until 2013. Complementary to his artistic work, he is an avid collector of vernacular music and is currently working on an anthology compilation of recordings made in central Africa in the 1950s. Mark van Yetter’s painterly practice is defined by his exclusive use of paper as image support. His paintings often combine the satirical and humorous possibilities of drawing with a lyricism conveyed through color and composition. His newest works, which will be presented in his upcoming solo exhibition The Plunderbund Charity at Ebensperger Berlin, in September 2022, are vibrant visual poems which juxtapose figurative and abstract motifs in small-formatted, richly associative triptychs.
Selected solo exhibitions are: Ebensperger, Berlin; Bridget Donahue, New York; Kunst Halle St. Gallen; Salzburger Kunstverein, Salzburg; Micky Schubert, Berlin; Kunsthall Stavanger, Stavanger; VIVII, Oslo; Kunstwerk EV, Cologne (with Stefanie Popp); Cleopatra’s, New York; Hotel, London; Alex Zachary Peter Curry Gallery, New York; Dispatch, New York.
